The Best Pizza in Omaha for Families
Pizza night is sacred with kids. Here are the Omaha pizza spots worth loading up the van for, from La Casa to Big Fred's and Zio's in the Old Market.
Pizza night is kind of sacred in a house with kids. Nobody complains. Everybody eats. And Omaha, lucky for us, takes its pizza seriously. Here are the spots worth loading up the van for.
Start with a true classic. La Casa Pizzaria has been around since 1953, and the original spot on Leavenworth Street still has that old-school neon sign out front and the same vibe inside. Their thing is Sicilian-style thin crust, and folks around here will fight you for a corner slice. It's the kind of place your grandparents probably ate at, and now you get to bring your own kids. That's a nice thing.
Big Fred's Pizza Garden is another Omaha institution, and it's a hit with families for a reason. Thin crust, that sweet-and-salty flavor people can't quite explain but keep coming back for, and a fun, casual room. Ask about the Goodie Roonie if you're really hungry. It's a double-crust monster that's honestly closer to a casserole than a pizza, and kids think it's the greatest thing they've ever seen.
For New York style, Zio's Pizzeria has been a staple for decades. The original location down in the Old Market has a ton of character and big foldable slices, and it's an easy stop if you're already downtown wandering the cobblestones.
Mama's Pizza earns a spot here too. Family-owned for over forty years, scratch-made dough, four locations around the metro, so there's probably one near you. Dependable, friendly, and easy with a crowd.
And if you've got a big hungry crew and a tight budget, Pizza Ranch is the buffet play. All-you-can-eat pizza means the teenager finally stops complaining, and on Tuesday nights kids eat free with an adult buffet. Hard to beat that on a school night.
One honest word. Everybody in Omaha has a hill they'll die on when it comes to pizza, and half the fun is arguing about it. So don't just take our word for it. Try two or three, let the kids vote, and start your own family tradition. That's the whole point.
Hours change now and then, so give a quick check before you go. Then grab a booth and enjoy the one meal nobody at the table fights about.
