A Family Day in Dundee, Omaha
Dundee is built for a slow family Saturday. Here's how to spend a day in one of Omaha's most walkable neighborhoods, from eCreamery to Memorial Park.
Some neighborhoods are just built for a slow family Saturday. Dundee is one of them. Tree-lined streets, brick storefronts, a walkable little stretch where you can park once and wander. Here's how to spend a day there with the kids.
Start with the obvious, because you'll never hear the end of it if you don't. eCreamery over at 5001 Underwood Avenue is a Dundee must. They scoop small-batch ice cream with flavors named after local Omaha events and people, so there's always something fun on the board. Get a cone, let it drip, and stroll.
And strolling is really the whole point in Dundee. The main drag is packed with little shops, cafes, and storefronts that are easy to pop in and out of with kids. It's the rare Omaha neighborhood where you can leave the car and let the afternoon go wherever it wants.
Right nearby is Memorial Park, and it's a gem. Sixty-seven acres of green space with a playground, walking trails winding through it, and plenty of room to throw a ball or roll down the hill. Pack a blanket and a few snacks and you've got a free afternoon that tires the kids out in the best way.
If you can time it right, come on the third Saturday evening of the month, when Dundee brings live music right out into the streets from 6 to 8 (as of July 2026 — confirm before you go), with local Omaha musicians playing. Grab that ice cream, find a spot on the curb, and let the kids dance. It's the kind of simple, wholesome evening that's getting harder to find.
And once a year, the neighborhood throws the Dundee Day street festival, coming up August 22, 2026 for its 32nd year. There's a parade, a pancake breakfast, food trucks, live music, art vendors, and a 5k if you're feeling ambitious. It's a great, easy, all-ages day.
Here's the tip that makes Dundee work with kids. Don't overplan it. Park once, get the ice cream, hit the park, poke into a shop or two, and let the day breathe. Dundee rewards the wander, not the schedule.
Then go make a slow Saturday of it.
Prices and hours change, so always confirm the latest on each place's official website before you go — the figures in this guide are current as of July 2026.
