Budget Date Nights in Omaha Under $30

Explore Omaha· July 1, 2026

You don't need a big budget for a real date night. Here are cheap and free date ideas around Omaha that come in under $30 total, with rough dollar amounts so you can actually plan.

Payday was still four days out. We had a twenty and a couple of ones between us, and we'd promised ourselves we'd get out of the house that Friday no matter what. So we did. Coffee, a walk, and we were home by nine, and honestly it was one of the better nights we'd had in a while.

That's the thing nobody tells you. A good date has almost nothing to do with what you spend. It has to do with getting out the door and actually looking at each other for a couple hours. Omaha makes that easy, because half the best stuff here is free.

So here's a whole stack of date nights that come in under thirty bucks. Real numbers. No fine print.

Start with the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. Walk out over the Missouri, stand with one foot in Nebraska and one in Iowa, watch the sun drop behind the skyline. Costs nothing. Then swing back toward downtown and split a coffee or a cocoa somewhere. Call it eight dollars, tops. You just spent two hours together and barely dented your wallet.

If you're up for one splurge, do the gardens. Lauritzen Gardens runs eighteen dollars a person for adults, so about thirty-six for the two of you (as of July 2026 — confirm current admission at their site). That's the one idea on this list that nudges just past our thirty-dollar line, so call it the splurge and save it for a day you feel like treating yourselves. You get a hundred acres of gardens to wander and a slow afternoon of walking and talking, which is worth it. We've written more about it in our Lauritzen Gardens guide if you want the details.

First Friday of the month, the First Friday art walk takes over the Old Market. Galleries open their doors, six to nine (as of July 2026 — check current times on their site), and it's free to wander in and out. You'll see local work, maybe hear some music, and the cobblestones alone make it feel like a real evening out. Grab a shared dessert somewhere after and you've spent maybe twelve dollars. Our Old Market guide has more on what's down there.

Summer nights, go free. Jazz on the Green runs Thursday evenings at Turner Park in Midtown Crossing, and it doesn't cost a thing to throw a blanket down and listen. Bring a thermos, pack a little snack, get there early for a good spot. We put it in our Jazz on the Green rundown too. Total cost of the date? Whatever the snacks ran you.

Then there's the Gene Leahy Mall at The RiverFront. Free. Walk the winding paths after dinner, watch the fountains, let the kids' laughter from the playground remind you why you needed a night off from them. Pair it with an ice cream and you've got a whole evening for the price of two scoops.

Speaking of scoops. Omaha does dessert dates well. Split a single at Ted and Wally's in the Old Market the way you did when you were dating, or pick somewhere off our best ice cream shops list. Four or five bucks for one cone you share, and you're forced to sit close. That's the whole point.

Want to eat out but keep it cheap? Split an entrée. One plate, two forks, an appetizer if you're feeling loose. Most family spots in town will bring you an extra plate without blinking. We've got a big family-friendly restaurants roundup and a BBQ guide if you want spots where sharing one plate actually fills you both up. Two people can eat well for under twenty-five dollars if you go in with a plan.

Here's a fun one. Thrift a theme. Pick something goofy before you leave the house, ugliest coffee mug, best paperback under a dollar, a record neither of you has heard of. Hit a couple thrift stores with five bucks each and see who wins. Costs almost nothing and you'll be laughing the whole time. Winner buys the loser a soda after.

And if you just want a list of free stuff to work through all summer, our roundup of 25 free things to do in Omaha works for couples too, not just families. Park walks. The RiverFront. All of it. Zero dollars.

Look, the tight-budget season doesn't have to be the no-romance season. Some of the sweetest dates we've had cost less than a tank of gas. You just have to decide the two of you are worth the effort of getting out the door.

Pick one this week. Leave your phones in the car. Split something. Walk somewhere. You'll be surprised how full thirty dollars can feel.

And if you need more low-key ideas, our whole date night collection is built for couples right here in town.

Prices and hours change, so always confirm the latest on each place's official website before you go — the figures in this guide are current as of July 2026.
