The Best Chinese Restaurants in Omaha

Friday night, nobody wants to cook, and Chinese takeout is the easy yes. Here's where Omaha families go, from dim sum at Grand Fortune to family-run Rice Bowl and Blue & Fly.

Friday night. Nobody wants to cook, the kids are gnawing on the couch cushions, and somebody says the magic words: let's just get Chinese. Smart call. Omaha's got a deep bench here, from the fancy dim sum place out west to the little family spot that's been slinging sesame chicken since the nineties. Here's where to go, whether you're eating in or hauling it home in a bag.

Start with the crowd-pleaser. Blue & Fly Asian Kitchen over on 72nd Street is the one people rave about, and for good reason. It does both sides of the menu, the Americanized favorites the kids want and the traditional dishes the adventurous eater at the table is after. Sit-down room's comfortable, though a lot of folks just order it for pickup. Prices are fair, portions are big, and it's the safe pick when the whole family wants something a little different. Heads up, they're closed Sundays (as of July 2026).

Now if you want to make a thing of it, Grand Fortune way out on West Center Road is the dim sum destination. This is the sit-down, order-a-bunch-of-little-plates experience, and they do it seven days a week (as of July 2026), which is rare around here. Steamed dumplings, buns, the works, all coming out and everybody sharing. Kids love the parade of tiny dishes, and it turns dinner into an event. It's a bit of a drive if you're on the east side, but worth it when you want the real spread.

For the neighborhood classic, go to Rice Bowl on Saddle Creek Road near midtown. Family-owned since 1995, and it's exactly what you want a corner Chinese place to be. The sesame chicken, the General's chicken, the hand-made crab rangoon. They even do a peanut butter chicken that people get weirdly loyal about. It's small, it's dine-in or takeout, and it's the kind of spot Omaha families have been ordering from for two generations. Closed Sundays (as of July 2026), so plan around it.

Up on the north side, House of Lee at 90th and Fort has been a fixture forever. Fast, generous, and easy, it's a lunch-and-dinner workhorse that a lot of northwest Omaha grew up on. Big combo plates, quick service, nothing fancy about it, and that's the whole appeal. Grab a couple entrées, feed the family, done. They're closed Sundays too (as of July 2026).

A quick honest note, because we don't pretend around here. Omaha's Chinese scene loses places from time to time, and a few names old-timers ask about have quietly closed over the years. But the four above are very much open and very much worth your Friday. If you want more sit-down family options in general, our most family-friendly restaurants guide has the wider list.

Here's the tip that saves you a headache. These places get slammed on Friday and Saturday nights, and the wait for a big takeout order can stretch past forty-five minutes right at the dinner rush. Two fixes. Call your order in a little early, before 6, and you skip the pileup. Or eat a touch later, after 7:30 p.m., once the first wave clears out. And if you're feeding a crowd, ask about the family-style combos, most of these places will build you a spread that costs less than ordering everything a la carte.

One more thing on the money side, since price matters when you're feeding a family. The neighborhood spots, Rice Bowl and House of Lee, are your budget-friendly weeknight play, most entrées landing in the easy range. Grand Fortune runs a little higher because you're ordering a table full of dim sum, so save that one for when you want the full experience. Blue & Fly sits comfortably in the middle.

That's the Chinese map for Omaha. Familiar and quick, or a full dim sum spread when you want to linger. Pick one, round up the crew, and go get everybody fed. If dumplings put you in the mood for more Asian flavors, keep an eye on our where-to-eat section, we're always adding to it. And for a lighter night, our best pizza for families guide covers the other easy dinner everybody agrees on.

Then go get the good stuff.
