The Best Donut Shops in Omaha
A box of donuts makes you a Saturday hero. Here are Omaha's best, from family-run Olsen Bake Shop to Pettit's, Sunrize, and the over-the-top Hurts Donut.
Few things buy a Saturday morning like a box of donuts. The kids come running, everybody's happy, and you look like a hero for under fifteen bucks. Omaha's got some really good ones. Here's where to go.
If you only hit one, make it Olsen Bake Shop. It's a small, family-run bakery, and when locals vote on the best donuts in town, Olsen doesn't just win, it wins by a mile. Beyond donuts they do cookies, cakes, bars, bread, even kolaches, so nobody leaves empty-handed.
Pettit's Pastry is the old guard. They've been an Omaha family-owned pastry shop for more than 65 years, and there's a reason a place lasts that long. Reliable, classic, the kind of spot your parents probably grabbed donuts at too.
Sunrize Donuts is another family-owned favorite, going on 30-plus years, with more than 50 kinds made from scratch every day. When your kids can't make up their minds, that's either a blessing or a very long stop. Probably both.
For the fun factor, Hurts Donut is a blast with kids. Big, over-the-top, cereal-and-candy-covered creations that look like a birthday party landed on a donut. Not an everyday thing, but a treat they'll talk about.
And if you want a bigger name with a long history, LaMar's Donuts and Coffee has been around since 1933 and does the traditional stuff really well, from glazed to fritters to cinnamon rolls, plus coffee for you.
Little tip. Donuts go fast, and the best varieties sell out early. Roll in before mid-morning on a weekend and you'll get the good stuff instead of the leftovers. Grab a dozen, let everybody pick one, and you've made the morning.
Hours vary and some spots close when they sell out, so it doesn't hurt to check first. Then go be the hero with the pink box.
