The Best Brunch Spots in Omaha to Take the Kids
Let somebody else flip the pancakes. Omaha's best family brunch spots, from cereal-topped pancakes at Early Bird to Wheatfields and Amato's Cafe.
Weekend breakfast with kids can go one of two ways. Either you're a short-order cook in your own kitchen, or you go out and let somebody else do the flipping. Omaha makes the second option easy, and pretty delicious. Here's where to take the crew.
Early Bird Brunch is a kid magnet, plain and simple. They do pancakes topped with cereal, like Fruity Pebbles or Cocoa Puffs, which your kids will lose their minds over. There's a pancake flight where you pick any three, so the table can split blueberry, chocolate chip, and PB&J and everybody's thrilled. They've got spots in the Blackstone District, Papillion, and Regency.
Wheatfields Eatery and Bakery has been an Omaha go-to since 2000, and it's great with families. Big menu, something for every picky eater, and folks swear by the biscuits and gravy. There's a bakery case up front too, so dessert kind of comes with the territory.
For a real treat, Amato's Cafe got its moment on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and for good reason. The ricotta-stuffed pancakes with homemade ricotta are the thing to get, and the chicken fried steak has fans all over town. It's the kind of hearty, homey breakfast that makes a slow Saturday feel like a little event.
And Bailey's Breakfast and Lunch is a solid, comfortable spot for a classic sit-down breakfast when you just want good food and easy service with the kids in tow.
One honest tip. Weekend brunch spots get slammed, so either go early, right when they open, or be ready to wait. With little ones, early almost always wins. You beat the rush, the food comes faster, and nobody hits the meltdown zone.
Hours and locations can change, so peek before you head out. Then go let somebody else make the pancakes for once.
