The Best Bakeries in Omaha
Omaha's bakeries run deep, from artisan sourdough at Le Quartier to Sweet Magnolias in the Joslyn Castle neighborhood and 100-year-old Orsi's in Little Italy.
There's a smell that hits you the second you walk into a good bakery. Warm sugar, yeast, a little burnt around the edges in the best way. Omaha's got a bunch of places that pull it off. Here's where to go.
Start with Le Quartier Baking Co. over on 90th Street. This is the artisan spot, the one where the croissants flake all down the front of your shirt and the sourdough has that real chewy crust. They bake it fresh in the shop, and the lunch counter is worth a stop on its own. Not a cheap doughnut run, but a treat that feels like a treat.
For something more sit-down, Wheatfields Eatery and Bakery down on 103rd has one of the biggest bakery cases in town. Sticky buns, wedding cakes, cookies stacked behind the glass. It's a full restaurant too, so you can grab breakfast and walk out with a box of something for later. If the brunch crowd sounds familiar, that's because it also lands on our best brunch spots list.
Now, if you want the place people actually rave about, that's Sweet Magnolias Bake Shop. The flagship sits in the historic Joslyn Castle neighborhood on 40th, with a second spot over in Millwork Commons. Their brown sugar cardamom cake gets talked about like it's a local celebrity. The cinnamon rolls hold up too. Small shop, made by hand, closed Mondays (as of July 2026), so plan around that.
Little Italy has Orsi's Italian Bakery, and this one's a piece of Omaha history. They've been baking bread on Pacific Street since 1919. More than a hundred years. The Italian loaves come out warm, and they run a full deli and pizzeria now too, so you can build a whole meal around a stop there. Bring cash and a little patience on the weekends.
Sweet tooth crowd, two more. Jones Bros Cupcakes at 100th and California is a family-run spot doing cupcakes, macarons, and ice cream in a nice upscale-but-comfortable room. And Smallcakes out in Papillion does gourmet cupcakes in that signature pink box. USA Today once put them on a top-ten cupcakes-in-the-country list, which for a Papillion strip-mall shop is no small thing.
Here's the tip that saves you. Bakeries sell out. The good stuff, the thing you drove across town for, goes early. Weekend mornings especially. Roll in before mid-morning and you get first pick instead of the sad two croissants nobody wanted.
Then go get yourself a box. Doughnut people, we've got you covered separately over on the best donut shops list.
